Trees of Prospect Park

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Trees are everywhere, sheltering us from weather, making oxygen, giving us a fascinating show of growth and rest throughout the year. Our neighborhood trees connect us to the the Mississippi River, each other, and our shared history in surprising ways.

Trees of Prospect Park, designed by artist and botanist and PP resident Sarah Nassif, will teach you to learn how to see, feel, hear and identify trees in new ways. Make drawings of your observations to help create a neighborhood field guide to our unique community of trees, enjoy a guided or solo tree walk. All ages and abilities can take part.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Self-Guided Tree Walk (1 mile with steep stairs) Follow the Google tree itinerary along East River Road south of the Franklin Bridge, down the boat ramp at Cecil St., along the river bottoms path, and up the many steps of the Franklin staircase. Just do the upper path if you want a less strenuous route.

  • Scroll down to check out the Google Map and tree stops on the walk.

  • Follow the Google map on your smart phone. Each stop has photos of the tree you are looking for.

  • Print the Tree Pages which include the map and tips for drawing your tree observations and creating your own field guide.

Contribute to Science (online) Log in to iNaturalist.org and join the Trees of Prospect Park project to add your photographic observations to the digital map.

Produced in collaboration with Mississippi Park Connection. Thank you to Prospect Park Legacy Fund for funding this project!
